Environmental

Home > Corporate Responsibility > Environmental

A high Percentage of Johnson businesses are now compliant with or working towards ISO14001 European Environmental Management Systems Standards.

Specific environmental sustainability targets encompass the areas of waste (particularly packaging and water), energy utilisation and emissions monitoring (particularly transport).

The introduction of the new GreenEarth® cleaning system, for which the Group holds the master licence for the UK and Ireland, will significantly enhance the environmental friendliness of drycleaning operations, compared with the chlorinated solvents currently in general use. The process is based on siloxane, which degrades rapidly in the environment to harmless silica (sand) and does not bio-accumulate.

Marketplace

To date the Groups Marketplace activity has focused on Ethical Trading Initiatives (ETI). Within our Johnson Clothing Division, established procedures exist to review sourcing routes and suppliers, whilst overseas factory performance and compliance are maintained by a programme of factory audits.

Workplace

Maintaining a safe and productive workplace is of paramount importance to the Group. Each Operating Division within Johnson has a team whose role is to safeguard the health and safety of its employees, customers and visitors to its premises, as well as others affected by its activities. A report on health and safety matters is produced for and considered on a quarterly basis by the Group Board.

Empowerment of the employee remains a key value of the Group. With this empowerment comes responsibility and accountability and it will remain a fundamental objective of the Group to achieve levels of empowerment and responsibility as deep within the organisation as possible.
